Through the Education and Coaching pathway, I gained the knowledge to create an objective and form a lesson plan that meets the TEK. This is a skill that I have already utilized in several of my freshman college classes. I also learned how to manage behavior in a classroom and the different teaching styles that one could use. I used several behavior management plans my first semester in college when working with students on literacy. When working in a school last semester I could see a difference in the way I worked with my students compared to those who didn't have the opportunity to be apart of a CTE program. I was confident in my ability to communicate with the students and they understood my expectations of them. I could easily adjust my lesson to the students' ability and could manage their behavior. I saw one of my peers chasing her students down the hallway, she didn't want to discipline them and had no experience in how to do so. This caused her to struggle in teaching them a lesson. However, as soon as my students started to take advantage of me I made them aware of my expectations and used positive reinforcement when they were listening and following directions. I wouldn't have been able to be as confident when working with students if it weren't for being apart of CTE at Byron Nelson High School. I am sure my students would have done more than just running through the halls if I wasn't armed with knowledge and experience from the Education and Coaching program.
