5/9/2019 Graduate Spotlight: Matea TiradoMatea Tirado Class of 2016 - FFA Byron Nelson High School I'm currently a junior at Oklahoma State University studying Natural Resources and Ecology with a focus in Wildlife. Since high school I have been traveling and studying. Recently, I went to Costa Rica on a pre-vet study abroad and got the opportunity to run a spay and neuter clinic for stray and low income families' cats and dogs. Through FFA I did a lot of leadership competitions that allowed me to come out of my shell, become very social and comfortable speaking in public, as well as comfortable taking a leadership role when needed in jobs and through school projects. I had an experience during a chapter conducting district competition where I served as vice president and we were facing a difficult problem and no one else knew how to address it. I went with my gut and it led us to a district win. This impacted me because I learned that I had been doubting myself and my knowledge that I spent many hours studying to attain, and that I was capable and could stand as a leader.
